Want to Avoid Early Window Replacement? Learn to Wash Your Windows the Right Way

Are You Washing Your Windows the Right Way?

Washing your home’s windows should be simple, right? Not so fast! This may surprise you, but some window-washing techniques do more harm than good and can lead to an early window replacement. Many homeowners don’t even realize they’re diminishing their windows’ functionality and beauty by their window-washing methods.

You can help avoid an early window replacement by doing these 4 easy things and you’ll help your windows stay lovely and long-lasting:

  • Check the weather — One of the most effective ways to clean windows is to pick the right day to do it. Cloudy weather is best.  Sunlight from a sunny day may cause streaking.
  • Use your vacuum — So much dirt and dust can accumulate inside window glass, screens, window tracks, and sills. To prevent muddy, dark marks that are hard to remove, vacuum up the grime before washing inside windows.
  • Grab a hose — Before wiping down the exterior of your windows, get rid of dust, dirt, and pollen by hosing down your fully-closed windows from the outside.
  • Dry the glass properly — This is another area where homeowners get tripped up—but paper towels leave behind lint and streaks. Instead, use clean coffee filters, a microfiber towel, a squeegee with a new rubber blade or even a newspaper.  The acid in the newspaper helps cut through grime and leave your windows looking squeaky clean.   Windows that are not dried properly may also lead to water damage and condensation between the glass panes.  This may not show up right away, but when the weather changes will be more noticeable. If left over time, this may leave windows needing to be replaced.

You deserve windows that enhance and protect your home. If your windows are in need of replacement, we’d love to help you!  We offer top quality replacement windows that fit every style and are easy to clean.  Contact us for an estimate today!
